Event lighting: how to create the right atmosphere?

Zones to light differently

Welcome, plenary, break areas and evening do not need the same intensity or color. Segment the lighting plan by zone.

Welcome should be bright and identifiable. Plenary needs stable stage lighting. Breaks can be softer to encourage conversation.

Color temperature and feel

Cool white supports focus; warm white relaxes and socializes. Plan changes according to the event schedule.

Avoid incoherent visible mixes (cool next to warm) unless intentional for scenography.

Stage and speakers

Moderate front light on the lectern, light backlight to separate silhouettes. Avoid angles that shadow the face.

For panels, even light on each speaker seat helps cameras and non-verbal communication.

Decorative lighting and branding

Uplights along walls, gobos with logo or pattern, color wash on stage backdrop: these reinforce identity without blocking function.

Coordinate colors with brand guidelines and any LED screens for overall visual coherence.

Terraces, gardens and tents in Morocco need special attention: sunset, falling natural light, possible weather.

Plan safety lighting on pathways and a gradual intensity increase after dusk.

Lighting transitions accompany musical tempo changes or stage entrances. Centralized operation avoids mismatches.

If LED screens are present, adjust ambient light to preserve contrast and visual comfort.
